Green Earth Appeal
The Green Earth Appeal is one of only 48 tree planting partners to the United Nations Environment Programme. Presented at the House of Parliament, Green Earth Appeal has scooped a top Green Apple Award for their contribution to the environment, winning the Gold Standard in the Food and Drink category.
Our Cup manufactures produce printed paper cups for the UK and across the globe. We have been working with Green Earth Appeal since 2012 to help offset the carbon footprint by planting trees for every 1000 paper cups sold. For just 99 pence per 1000 cups, the Green Earth Appeal will plant a single young tree which will replace the paper used in the manufacturing of your printed cups. The customer will then receive a certificate showing how many trees have been planted to offset their carbon footprint. They can also use the Green Earth Appeal branding on their paper cups, which will show their own customers that they are being a responsible company. Coffee Solutions are pleased to support Green Earth Appeal’s plant a tree scheme.
Mike Cromwell, Owner of Coffee Solutions commented, “We are all very excited to be able to offer this to our customers and give something back to the environment. We look forward to rolling it out across all of our UK based customers in the coming year.”
The benefits of Coffee Solutions tree planting commitment are twofold; through the absorption of the carbon associated with the production and transportation of printed paper cups, on a global level they are supporting some of the poorest communities in the developing world. The majority of the trees planted recently have been sent to poverty stricken Haiti, giving significant work opportunities to the rural communities dealing with the aftermath of a massive earthquake and the associated disease and lack of food.
The Green Earth Appeal is part of a network which has planted over 1,250,000 trees in Haiti over the past 2 years. The trees serve many purposes, the most significant of which is sustainability, the thousands of fruit trees planted within targeted areas allow the community to feed itself, its livestock and sell surplus fruit, generating much needed revenue.
The founder of the Green Earth Appeal, Marvin Baker remarked, “We were delighted that we are working with Coffee Solutions to reduce their carbon footprint by planting a tree for every 1000 printed cups sold.”
Over 5,000 trees have been planted so far which shows how successful the scheme has been.

What The Green Earth Appeal Does
The Green Earth Appeal is a Not-For-Profit Social Enterprise, changing lives of some of the planet’s poorest communities through tree planting, in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme and with the assistance of companies like yours.
“On the opening day of the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, we are happy to welcome The Green Earth Appeal as a partner to the Billion Tree Campaign. Trees are a legacy for future generations. ”
United Nations Environment Programme – Monday 7th December 2009
Formed in 2009, The Green Earth Appeal is one of only 61 worldwide planting partners of the United Nations’ Billion Tree Campaign, and is a part of a network of charities and NGOs (Non-Government Organisations) which since 1989, has aided thousands of communities in Central America, Africa, and Asia by planting nearly 65 million trees.
The Green Earth Appeal helps to create sustainable and productive communities throughout the developing world, by financing the teaching and empowering of rural groups to grow sustainable, renewable forests for agriculture and food, firewood, construction, water collection and filtration and animal habitat.
This is achieved though free distance training programmes and teams of dedicated individuals in the field who train, support and facilitate hope for members of communities to build better lives for themselves.
Why plant trees? Because they change lives. They provide food, forage for animals, and wood for fuel and construction. They increase agricultural yields, improve water infiltration and aquifer recharge, and protect soils from wind and water erosion.
However, planting trees can be difficult when the canopy has disappeared, topsoil has been eroded, and the climate and growing conditions have changed.
As an agroforestry resource provider, our tree planting partners work with local farmers and community groups to help them better support themselves, and to restore degraded lands to sustainable productivity by planting trees that not only thrive in poor soil conditions, but that also benefit the local area in a multitude of ways. The Green Earth Appeal is part of a worldwide network which includes technicians, volunteers, and community leaders, allowing us to help rehabilitate environments across the globe.
The Green Earth Appeal is always looking to welcome companies who share a passion for the environment and/or for empowering communities with more than hand outs. Enquire today about how you and your company can get involved in a way that can only have a positive effect on your staff, customers and your bottom line.
As a partner of the United Nations Environment Programme our mission is to work with charities and NGOs across Africa, Asia and Latin America providing food and supplying a means for rural communities to achieve economic stability through the promotion of agroforesty, while at the same time reducing the CO2 in the planet’s atmosphere.
We work with our partners to improve livelihoods and restore degraded lands to sustainable productivity through planting beneficial trees in agroforestry systems providing a myriad of benefits, such as food; forage for animals; increased agricultural yields; improved water infiltration and the protection of soils from wind and water erosion.
Through a network of technicians, volunteers and community leaders world-wide, our partners’ programme reaches out and provides the knowledge and ability to rehabilitate their environment. Our primary partner network has helped thousands of communities in Latin America, Africa, and Asia improving their livelihoods and their environment by planting nearly 65 million trees. These trees remove over one and a half million tons of CO2 from the atmosphere each year.
The Green Earth Appeal is always looking to find companies who share a passion for the environment and/or for empowering communities with more than hand outs. The Billion Tree Campaign
The Billion Tree Campaign was inspired by the late Nobel Peace Prize winner, Professor Wangari Maathai, founder of the Green Belt Movement. When an executive in the United States told Professor Maathai their corporation was planning to plant a million trees, her response was: “That’s great, but what we really need is to plant a billion trees.”
The Green Earth Appeal is one of sixty-one worldwide Tree Planting Partners in the United Nations Environment programme’s Billion Tree Campaign*. The campaign started in 2006 and since then has successfully planted more than twelve billion trees. This programme has encouraged partnership between governments, organisations, communities and individuals to work towards a better global future through the planting of trees.
The Green Earth Appeal is a partner in a diverse group from sectors that include vehicles, finance, cosmetics, confectionary, NGOs and other United Nations agencies committed to The Billion Tree Campaign.
The Billion Tree campaign aims to address the multitude of issues associated with deforestation, and to return global temperature rises to within twenty Celsius of pre-industrial levels through the reforestation. Approximately seventeen percent of greenhouse gas emissions are the result of deforestation and forest degradation.
Whilst planting trees may seem like a simple solution to a massive global problem, this one action can lessen the impact of global warming and enhance biodiversity. Trees are key in protecting the environment for future generations.
In planting trees it is possible to increase the production of oxygen, absorb CO2, reduce soil erosion and its damaging effects, ensure the provision of habitat for wildlife.
The Billion Tree Campaign had an initial target of registering, through its dedicated website, one billion trees in 2007.
In 2008, the Campaign’s objective was raised to seven billion trees – a target to be met by the climate change conference that was held in Copenhagen, Denmark in December 2009. By September 2009, the seven billion planted trees mark had been surpassed. In January 2013 this number had risen to 12 billion.
